10 ideas for a Stylish Halloween

On the 31st of October, many countries around the world will observe “Halloween”. It is a Western Christian feast and a prelude to the three-day observance in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs and all the faithful departed. While it has never been a major festival in India, in recent times, due to the awareness created by the media, Halloween has gained popularity even among the non-Christians. Most of the youth are aware of this festival and celebrate by attending Halloween costume parties. Many a clubs, pubs and other businesses try to capitalize on the concept.
Halloween costumes are mostly considered to be scary or outlandish. Here are a few ideas for stylish costumes without the need to look bizarre, overtly provocative or outright creepy.
  1. Morticia Addams:
I have always been fascinated by this character from the Addams Family. I feel she is mysterious, graceful and elegant. To achieve this look, you would require a long sleeve, floor length black gown, preferably with a train. If you have waist length straight black hair it would be an added benefit. If not you can go in for a wig. Wear pale make up, smoky eyes and bright red lipstick and nails.

  1. Wednesday Addams:
Another fascinating character from the Addams family is Morticia Addams’ daughter Wednesday Addams. To get her look wear a black knee length dress with a white high collar, black stockings and black shoes. Tie your hair into two braids and use pale make up. One very important feature of the Wednesday Addams look is the absence of a smile. So don’t forget to not smile.

  1. Indiana Jones:
To dress as everyone’s favourite archaeologist, all you need is a good leather jacket, a wide brimmed sable fedora and a satchel. You can even get your best bud to dress as your Nazi antagonist.

  1. Clarke Kent/ Superman:
So you dressed as Superman as a kid. You can now try the Clarke Kent look. Wear a superman tee-shirt under a shirt and suit jacket. Make sure your shirt buttons are open so the Superman logo is easily visible. Add a pair of dark framed glasses to complete the look.

  1. Teen Wolf:
All you need is a varsity jacket. The real key to nailing this look is getting the facial hair down au naturel .A pair of fuzzy mitts will enhance the look.

  1. Rosie the Riveter:
Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon of World War II, representing the women who worked in factories and shipyards during that time. She is a symbol of feminism and women’s economic power. To achieve this look, you will need a pair of blue denim trousers and a blue denim shirt. Contain all your hair in a red with white polka dotted scarf. Roll up your sleeves to show off your biceps. After all who doesn’t like a strong, independent woman!

  1. James Bond:
The lovable spy might seem obvious and overdone. But the double-o seven will never go out of fashion. Bond’s charm lies in his personality. But other than that, you can achieve his look if you have a well-tailored slim tux, a pristine white shirt and manual bow tie. Get your hair gelled and combed back. And yeah, don’t be afraid to adjust your cufflinks.

  1. Madonna:
Love her or hate her. But you can’t deny that she has been one of the greatest fashion icons of all time. To get the look of the 80s Queen of Pop, you’ll need lace; lots and lots of lace. Wear a short lace skirt teamed with a pair of lace stockings or tights and a pair of high heels. Accessorize with lots of strings of beaded necklaces and bracelets and a pair of lace gloves. Leave your tresses in a bed head and wear a big lace bow on top. As for your make up, keep your eyebrows thick, wear a bright red lipstick, and don’t forget the beauty spot above your lip.

  1. Walter White:
To look like the ‘Breaking Bad’ star, all you need is a clean shaven head and a French beard. Wear a checked long sleeve shirt and a pair of chinos and jacket. Accessorize with a pair of rectangle thin framed glasses and a pork pie hat. Just generally look menacing and you’ll nail the look.

  1. Skull and bones tee shirts:
For those who do not wish to look like any character and just want to go in for a skull and bones look, you can create your own skull and bones tee-shirt. Cut out holes in an old tee-shirt to look like a skull or like ribs and bones. Make sure you wear your modified tee over a contrasting colour to create the best impact.
Just generally have fun this Halloween. Stay safe and stay stylish!
